| Bio: | Geek by trade, artist by hobby, naturalist by lifestyle. I support my crafty habits through acts of super geekery for a popular and well-known entertainment company. I'm a web developer (i.e. code monkey), but I've dabbled with the design side of the web too. I'm a stickler for standards and usability. I like my job a lot, and people tell me I'm good at it, but I'm not sure I want to do it for the rest of my life, when there are so many other things out there to try. I would love to be a freelance artist of any type one day, and it's not so much making art as the act of building things with my hands, which I love the most. I would describe my favorite design style as "nature inspired contemporary." I love any kind of DIY project, especially when it means I can use something I already have instead of contributing to a nasty landfill! "Reduce, reuse, recycle" is my mantra for living as of late. I'm also very passionate about good health and nutrition. I'm an ovo-pesco vegetarian with aspirations of one day becoming a raw foodist (note: not raw vegan, although my intake of animal products is limited to fish and eggs a few times a week). I became a health nut as the result of some long-term health problems and food sensitivities I am struggling to overcome. As an added bonus, I lost and kept off 25 pounds several years ago! I am mostly self-taught through reading a lot of science-y things, but I also took some classes to get my basic herbalist certification. My geekery also extends into the food arena, and I enjoy culturing kombucha, sprouting various things, and other weird food experimentations. I am constantly learning about myself and trying to make improvements and optimizations physically, mentally, and spiritually. As a side note, I'm not much for practicing religion, but I find the study and comparison of world religions to be fascinating. I have many interests, and often have a hard time deciding which I like best or keeping with any one thing too long, because there is always something new to try! I'm also a Libertarian, and pretty sure that we're all going to be screwed after the next election. | |
